ST. JOHN’S – The Capital City
As one of the oldest cities in North America, St. John’s has a rich and unique history with a population of approximately 112,000. There is always something to do in St. John’s. It’s a colorful city surrounded by natural rugged beauty and offers plenty of art and culture. It’s a relatively quiet city and a great place to raise a family.
There are many different neighborhoods to choose from. Whether you like downtown living, center city or something with a little more space you will be able to find it. There are lots of great schools and some offer full french immersion and private school is also an option. There are two major shopping malls and plenty of other shopping plazas disbursed though out the city.
If you like to hike, then you will be in your element. Right within the city and the surrounding areas you can find the East Coast Trails… some that offer just a 30 minute hike to a whole day if your heart desires it and and your feet can handle it. One of the most famous and fairly challenging is Signal Hill, which is right within the city. It will take about 1 – 2 hrs depending on your level of endurance.
There are plenty of great restaurants that offer delicious local cuisine including Raymonds, which was voted as Canada’s top restaurants by Vacay.ca There is an abundance of night life and live entertainment can be found on George Street just about any night.
